Back in the 1950s, when it all began for Holmes Consulting, Lyall Holmes was an ambitious young man with a burning passion for engineering. He had an unbridled energy and enthusiasm for structures – he’d often be up all night working on an exciting new system. Nothing got in the way of quality, and when a job was on the table, his sharp mind was consumed with finding the best solutions. Working with great architects like Miles Warren, Maurice Mahoney and Paul Pascoe, Lyall broke new ground in New Zealand engineering and left a legacy still evident in today’s built environment. He was a man of true personality and talent, and a sad loss to the industry when he passed away, aged just 49.
But, the story didn’t end there. Lyall left a thriving business behind him and it continued to grow in his strong image. For nearly six decades, Holmes Consulting has led the way in innovative, high quality structural and civil engineering. Along the way we’ve worked on challenging structures right across New Zealand – at one point we even owned a small plane to get around the country! In the last 30 years, we’ve exported our Kiwi-grown engineering expertise all over the world, taking our ingenuity to places like the USA, Asia, Australia, Europe and the Middle East. Wherever you are in the world, it’s likely that some of the structures around you have had the expert Holmes Consulting touch.
Today, our own custom built technology is keeping us at the forefront of the industry, backed by the weight of the collective knowledge and experience we’ve built up over the course of more than 8000 successful projects. We’re proud of where we’ve come from, and very excited about where we’re heading.
