1 Beaumont Quarter sits adjacent to Auckland’s Victoria Park, a site once occupied by a thriving gasworks operation. With views over the stunning Waitemata Harbour, Beaumont Quarter has 238 units featuring no less than 33 different housing options—including terraced housing and apartments. The project was spaced over three stages, working in with the overall masterplan for the development.
2 Holmes Consulting delivered the structural designs for the project, supporting the developer and multiple architects (national and international) to achieve diversity of look, feel and atmosphere within different parts of the site. We used non-linear time history analysis to assess the old gasworks, resulting in structural upgrades that seamlessly integrated into the historic buildings. Within the development we also brought some clever new build design elements to bear, including timber structures up to 5 storeys high, and multiple basement carparks.
3 With difficult ground conditions including extensive ground retention, buried tunnels and clifftop structures, this was a project that put the onus on intelligent, precise engineering. Our designs delivered robust, efficient structures for the new build parts of Beaumont Quarter, as well as strengthening and modernising the structure of the historic gas works.
