We’ve got decades of experience designing for the harsh marine environments in New Zealand’s coastal cities and right around the world. Holmes Consulting’s expert engineers combine the technical knowledge of structural design with the depth of experience you can only gain working on waterfront developments. Whether we’re delivering a new pier, strengthening an existing one, or designing a building on reclaimed land, we bring the same creativity and attention to detail Holmes Consulting is known for across all of our projects.
It’s no secret that the marine environment is extremely exacting. The affect of salt water on structures is compounded by the ground conditions in marine zones, which are commonly variable and unsettled – particularly where developments are going ahead on reclaimed land. It’s an area of engineering that requires specialist knowledge and the ability to view designs in the context of an environment that will change as ocean forces work on the ground beneath. Often, our work will involve in-depth analysis of structures in the tidal zone, applying our own custom-built technology to assess the impact of waves, water and the tide line.
We’ve worked on the waterfronts of all of New Zealand’s major coastal cities, and a large number of the smaller regional ports. That experience has led onto a range of international work, including a number of piers and structures on San Francisco’s beautiful waterfront.
