Studholme Dairy Factory
1Studholme Dairy Factory was a greenfields project built on the old Skegs factory site, located in the dairy-rich province of Canterbury. This was a large, ambitious project, with all site services requiring replacement: the project value was more than $120m.
2Our brief was to provide civil, structural, and architectural design for all buildings and site services. We had a very short time frame – just 11 months from design to completion, which isn’t long in the context of a project of this scope and scale. The work required the structural knowledge to create open, functional spaces that maximise efficiencies in dairy processing, and provide staff a secure, robust environment to do their work.
3Although it went down to the last minute, we achieved the project timelines, which means this is the fastest turnaround for a development of this type in New Zealand. Dairy factories don’t often win design awards, but we were delighted to have the opportunity to contribute to one of New Zealand’s most important industries. If you’re driving through Studholme, pause for a look at the factory, which broke a long standing production record in 2012, proving that it’s just as impressive on the inside as it looks from the outside.
