Arts & Culture
New Zealand’s art and culture scene is known the world over. Internationally acclaimed actors, artists, musicians, comedians, and even Man Booker prize winners – we’ve got them all. These talented people all need places to display their skills, and that’s where we come in. Right across the country, Holmes Consulting has delivered the structural designs and strengthening and restoration projects for a huge number of New Zealand’s theatres, museums and galleries. It’s work we love doing.
Designing for Arts and Culture spaces requires a genuine understanding of their ultimate purpose, and the audiences who will visit them. Form and function have equal footing, and the need for visually striking spaces has to be balanced with practicality. When we’re designing for these kinds of structures, we do all the legwork up front to understand the vision for the building before we set off. Those extra miles at the start mean that, when we hit the design table, we’re properly in touch with what’s needed. These structures often evolve in their use over time, or need to adapt for different purposes on a regular basis: we’re experts at creating flexible spaces that are readily modified when needs must.
We’re proud to have delivered great Arts and Culture projects like Christchurch’s stunning Isaac Theatre Royal, Te Papa in Wellington, and the Auckland War Memorial Museum – and hundreds of other projects around New Zealand’s towns and cities.
