WFH during lockdown, as a young engineer
Nothing can prepare you for a world pandemic, let alone an entire nation being put into lockdown with 48hrs notice! However like everyone else in New Zealand (and across the world) we took it in our stride here at Holmes and set plans into action to help move more than 220 people out of our six offices across NZ and into their homes/home offices/garages/lounges to begin their working from home (WFH) journey.
One of our talented Design Engineers, Scott Cameron, was recently interviewed by DEMM Engineering & Manufacturing Magazine about his experience as a young engineer working from home during COVID-19 lockdown.
WFH (or even working remotely) isn’t a new concept here at Holmes, due to the nature of the projects we undertake in structural, civil structures, and civil engineering. In fact, Scott has been working on a project in Tauranga for the past two years, even though he’s based in our Auckland office. He has a webcam set up onsite to keep an eye on the progress of this important project from his desk. This familiarity with working remotely certainly helped with the challenges of working from home during lockdown!
