Imagination & Innovation

Engineering is governed by absolutes, but the design thinking behind it doesn’t have to be. When we hear a bold, gravity defying vision for a building, a bridge or any other kind of structure, we don’t focus on the problems – we’re imagining ways we could make that vision a reality. It’s exactly that kind of thinking that gets us on the bus bright and early each morning, and staying late to nut out new structural systems that no one’s even imagined before.

While we love to innovate, our approach is always pragmatic: we’re not here to innovate for the sake of it, or just to win awards. We do it for a reason – because it’s the best way to save money, improve efficiency or performance, or overcome the sorts of challenges your garden variety engineer will avoid at all costs. That’s why we’re the structural engineer of choice for clients looking to break new ground on ambitious landmark projects, or wanting to unlock the cost, efficiency and performance benefits of structural innovation done right.

When it comes to imagination, we like to think we’re the kind of dreamers you can really depend on – with blue sky thinking that’s still firmly earthed in realities of codes, gravity and the other factors at play in any project. That balance of imagination and pragmatism is notoriously hard to find, but it’s set Holmes Consulting apart for nearly 60 years. We love to imagine where it’ll take us next.
